Marena Messina

Dr. Marena Messina currently serves as an Assistant Professor of Accounting at the Collat School of Business, a position she assumed in August 2023. She has been a part of the Department of Accounting and Finance and an Advisor to UAB's Beta Alpha Psi chapter since 2020.

Eddie Nabors

Eddie Nabors retired from his role as an Accounting Instructor from the Collat School of Business and Advisor to UAB's Beta Alpha Psi in June 2024, after serving in the Department of Accounting and Finance since 2011. He continues to engage with the university community, volunteering with UAB's Beta Alpha Psi chapter and in Career Services at the Collat School of Business. Additionally, Nabors is currently fulfilling a three-year term as the Director of Administration on the Beta Alpha Psi Board of Directors.

Abby Hollis

Abby is a junior accounting major originally from Gardendale, AL. This summer, she began the Accelerated Bachelor's/Master's Program pursuing her Master of Accounting. She is in the Honors College at UAB and is on track to graduate with both degrees in the Spring of 2026. After graduation, she plans to obtain her CPA license and work in public accounting. At the Collat School of Business, Abby works as an accounting tutor, and she is on the Business Bound Leadership Team. In her free time, she enjoys shopping, traveling, running, and spending time with her family, friends, and two cats.

Moises Noriega Aldave

Moises is originally from Lima, Peru, and he came to the U.S. in 2021 with the INTO UAB pathway program to pursue a Bachelor´s degree. He is a junior majoring in accounting and is enrolled in the ABM Master of Accounting program. After completion, he will pursue the CPA license and work in public accounting. He completed a tax internship with DLHC in the Spring of 2024 and currently works as a Building Manager at the UAB Hill Student Center. In his free time, he enjoys going to the gym, listening to music, and playing video games with friends.

Emily Marbut

Emily is a senior from Mount Olive, AL. She is an accounting major and plans to obtain the MAc as well as take the CPA exam after graduation. She is currently interning with Warren Averett and will also be interning with Pearce, Bevill, Leesburg, Moore, P.C. in Spring of 2025. Outside of school, Emily is a dance instructor for Audience of One, Corner High School, and Dora High School. Other than teaching dance, she enjoys reading, hiking, and spending time with friends and family.

Peter Haywood

Peter is an undergraduate accounting student originally from Helena, AL. He has served us as and executive assistant and now serves us as treasurer, he has also served as the Chief Accounting Officer for the Green and Gold Fund, our student-managed investment fund. Peter interned at Carr, Riggs, and Ingram as an admin intern in the spring of 2024 and as an audit intern in the summer of 2024. In the spring of 2025, Peter will be interning with DLHC as a tax intern. In his free time, Peter enjoys volunteering, spending time with friends and family, and the occasional trip to Disney World. Peter plans to pursue his Master of Accounting through the Accelerated bachelor's/Master's program at UAB. Upon completion of his Master's, Peter plans to pursue his CPA license and work in public accounting.

Ellie Knippers

Ellie is an undergraduate accounting major in her junior year, from Hoover, AL. In the Spring of 2025, she will be working as a tax and estate and trust intern at Warren Averett. Ellie has plans to enroll in the accelerated MAc program while finishing her undergraduate degree. She has plans to sit for the CPA after graduation. In addition to serving as the Social Chair for Beta Alpha Psi, Ellie also runs the social media of a local animal rescue and non-profit. Outside of class, Ellie is passionate about animal rescue and fosters and volunteers for Two by Two Animal Rescue.

Kali Lotankar

Kali is a junior from Cumming Georgia. She interned at Bettis Law Group and the Magistrate Court House over the summer. She is currently interning at Marcus A. Jones, III, P.C, a criminal and family law firm. She is involved in The Green and Gold Fund and is the treasurer for Sigma Rho. She is involved in the Pre Law Society and is the Fundraising Chair. She loves to spend time with her family and friends during the summer!

Birthe Franck-Petersen

Birthe Franck-Petersen is an international student-athlete from Aalesund, Norway. She is a senior majoring in accounting and is set to graduate in May 2025. Birthe plans to pursue her master’s in accounting while preparing for the CPA exam. She is also a member of the University of Alabama at Birmingham's women’s track and field team. Recruited for shot put and hammer, Birthe currently holds the school record in shot put. In the fall of 2024, she will be interning as an audit intern with Pearce, Bevill, Leesburg, and Moore.

Abby is a sophomore accounting major from Huntsville, Alabama. She plans to finish her bachelor's and move on to her master's degree to eventually work in international accounting. She enjoys traveling when she isn't working or doing school.
